Milwaukee County Government: The View from Within
On April 3, voters in several municipalities will be asked to weigh in on the appropriate size of the
Milwaukee County Board and the appropriate pay for supervisors – the latest twist in a longstanding
debate regarding the functionality and utility of Milwaukee County government in the 21st century.
Is Milwaukee County’s current structure working, or would it function better with a part-time board or
appointed executive? Is there too much overlap between the County and its municipalities, and which
functions might be consolidated at which levels? How has the County’s relationship with the State of
Wisconsin evolved over time, and is it permanently broken?
Join the Public Policy Forum at a Viewpoint Luncheon where three retiring Milwaukee County supervisors –
with 48 years of collective service – will provide a candid insider’s view of County government and the questions
surrounding its future. In addition, the three supervisors will offer their reflections on their time in office, the level
of civility in legislative deliberations and campaigns, and the future of representative government in Milwaukee County
- Milwaukee County Supervisor Lynne DeBruin, 15th District
- Milwaukee County Board Chairman Lee Holloway, 5th District
- Milwaukee County Supervisor Joseph Rice, 6th District
